The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR has been announced as another PSVR2 launch game after its new PS Store listing revealed a release date of 22nd February 2023. The title costs £32.99/$39.99, and pre-ordering nets you goodies such as a golden gun and a bobblehead for your cart. It joins the likes of Horizon Call of the Mountain and nine other games launching on the same day as Sony's next-gen headset.
As the follow-up to PSVR experience Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, you'll once again be following a set path aboard a train cart and shooting whatever pops out at you. The track this time is set across four different scenarios: a ghost ship, a battle against witches in 17th-century New England, the desert where vampires lurk below the surface, and finally the World's Fair Hotel. The latter heavily inspired the recent release The Devil in Me.
PSVR2 eye tracking, haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and headset rumble will all be supported features along with a 4K HDR resolution. "It’s your own personal nightmare where each track has multiple terrifying paths. No two runs will be the same, but each will test your reactions in this multi-sensory VR horror experience."

Really pleased about this. It was expected, but pleasantly surprised by the price too. Will pre order and get the extras because it’ll take too long for PSVR2 games to hit the second hand market anyway.
Hoping announcements for launch day releases of Kayak and Resi8 are next.
Nice. Going to preorder this sucker...Rush of Blood is still one of the best VR horror titles made.
Well isn't that a pleasant surprise! Horizon CotM and Switchback VR for me then!
have a good feeling about this, will probably get this and horizon...maybe Cosmonious High?
Wonder if the more accurate controllers will make the game easier. Wasnt sure if it was because I was just terrible at the game, but I found the last one quite difficult. On the higher difficulties, it felt like I just couldnt shoot fast enough.
That's an easy day one purchase for me.
@LordAinsley those controllers where crap ,so I wouldn't be suprised ,blood and truth use to do my head in.
This is awesome news!
@tallythwack for sure. I remember sometimes the guns kind of spinning around and pointing at my torso, and just a generally gankiness to the aiming
@ThorsHammer yeah rush of blood still holds up. I think I’m one of the very few that liked the impatient too.
Just a shame that this alone is not enough for me to shell out so much money on psvr2 day 1
@Bleachedsmiles I didn't mind the inpatient ,I was put off by everyones oversized head though
@Bleachedsmiles yh Inpatient had a few solid momements (and an awesome midpoint jump scare) but was overall disappointing for me, felt like a major wasted oppertunity...espcially when the plot left the cell. Im curious, what worked for you about it? Yeah, Switchback doesnt solely sell me on day 1 purchase, but RE8, Horizon and being a VR entusiast, certainly do.
Glad we finally have a proper release date and the pricing!
@ThorsHammer The setting and build up in VR really worked for me. I don’t think the game would have pulled me in nearly as much had I played it flat. But in VR that slow build up, interaction with your mate, the whole something being not quite right…just played well with the limitations of psvr.
And then leaving the cell offered a decent jump scare, like you say.
I think the ending was rushed. And there’s basically very little in the different endings. But I dunno, it felt like being part of a movie more than a game I guess…and that just clicked with me.
RE8 would be one of my pick ups…it’s just a shame I already played through it flat.
Horizon really isn’t doing it for me. It looks pretty. But also looks a bit ‘Jack of all trades, master of none’
I was hoping for a full GT.
They really needed half life Alex to get me there day 1 though. And even then I’d have to think about it when I know there’s only two other games of interest to me right now…the majority being pretty filler shovelware again - which is a problem psvr had…only I didn’t pick up psvr for £530.
This will be the first PSVR 2 game purchase for me. After Horizon in the bundle, of course.
I'd like every game to utilize every haptic available. I suspect this particular game will do so.
Because those headset haptics are gonna blow our minds. Bet.
@Bleachedsmiles thats intresting, i had similar feelings with Inpatient, i really dug the tense build up but yh, the finale soured it for me enough, thought couldve been really special but they dropped it.
I was lucky with RE8, they anouced the VR version after i got an hr in, so have paused it, and will start again in VR.
Im with you about Horizon, but the one factor behind it that has me sold is the dev, Firespirite. They did the absoultely fantastic VR game The Persistance. Its probably my favorite PSVR title, and has me hopeful they will be able to provide the necessary meaty experience behind the flash.
Anyhow, only reviews will only tell, i can see why ppl are skeptical about getting day one, but for me im more then hyped, the tech is truly heads above Quest 2, and im tired of the hit and miss experience ive had with PCVR.
